Three Amazing Tour Departures June 6, 1944 is known as D-Day. “Operation Overlord” commenced with heavy naval and air attacks in the hopes of knocking out the German defences so that Allied troops could cross the English Channel and land along 80 kms of coastline in France. Canadians, about 15,000, from the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division attacked Nazi strongholds with the codename “Juno Beach”. Canada suffered 1,074 casualties including 359 dead on D-Day alone.
